One of the newer Italian restaurants in the posh and trendy Merchant City area of Glasgow, Amore's friendly and efficient waiting staff serve up wisely-priced food from pasta to pizza and an assortment in between such as fish dishes, steak and vegetarian ensembles. A night out here for yourself and a companion won't break the bank and can be fun. But if you've secrets to share or are planning an important business lunch/dinner then avoid this place. The tables are so close together Johnny No Mates could go here and end up referring to himself as Mr Popular. Ok, the night we went was Black Friday (ie Dec 17 - office Christmas party night) and the restaurant was choc-a-block, but we still managed to hear every word of our neighbouring table's conversation. Service-wise, we were very impressed. Considering the restaurant was packed to the rafters, our meals came swiftly and more important, they were hot.
Amore's spicy pasta dish has to be recommended as does the lasagne which was actually such a big plateful that my companion couldn't finish it. But I suspect he was leaving room for the hot chocolate fudge cake which he was aware was about to make an appearance.
A fun gimmick this restaurant offers - and one which is assure to appeal to most age groups - is when they dim the lights and the sound system belts out Dean Martin's version of Amore...amusing when it's your first time and you wonder what on earth is happening as the waiters all stand to attention and sing. Amore's also keen to celebrate birthdays. Good if you have a special event coming up.
